Abergavenny RFC -17
Blackwood Stars RFC -15
ABERGEVENNY dug in deep to steal the Ben Francis Bowl with their last play of the game against Blackwood Stars.
Played at Usk’s Red Shed Meadow, Aber struck first with an unconverted try by hooker and captain Gareth Williams. Blackwood Stars hit back with a try by centre Tom Burriss, converted by outside half Nathan Hughes.
The Stars went further in front with another try thanks to a forward drive but this time the conversion failed.
The Bailey Park outfit brought the scores level with a try by Man-of-the-Match, flanker Dan Bevan, converted by full back Matthew Edwards.
However, just before the break, Nathan Hughes put the Stars back in front with a penalty to make it 12-15 at half-time.
Both teams seem to cancel each other out in the second half and it looked as though there would be no further points as Blackwood Stars seemed destined to hang on to a famous victory.
Three minutes into injury time, it was almost a forgone conclusion, but Aber had other ideas, and soon after winning the ball, the ball was moved upfield for second row Dan Morris to cross for the match-winner as Aber laid claim to the silverware.
