RTB Athletic - 6

Quins - 38

WITH Abergavenny's First XV game cancelled by Brynmawr at late notice, all eyes were on the Quins who kick started their season with an impressive away win at RTB.

The front row piano shifters, Paul "Fifth Floor" Storey, Ryan "Kit Man" Whiteman, Rob "Pie Man" Lothian, were supported by locks Elfed Woodford, making an impressive return to Quins colours, and the ever green veteran Meic Owen setting a solid platform to allow the back row of Nathan Willis, Paul Cornock and Tom Rees, sponsored by Stowford Press, to dominate the breakdown.

This provided the pretty boys with go forward ball to attack the opposition.

Scrum half Sean "Sheepy"Jones gave fly half Kerion "FB" Skinner quick ball to get his back line moving fluently to create trying scoring opportunities for the wide men.

The combination of the powerful centre Dan "Skinny" Smith breaking the gain line with his powerful running and hard hitting in the tackle, allowed the deft sleight of hand touches of fellow centre Phil Russell, to bring into the line full back Jack Bruton at every opportunity.

Bruton is another product of the Mini, Junior and Youth sections, and made an impressive debut at senior level.

Wingers Ryan "Symo" Symons and the "Ginger Monster" Nathan Byrne caused havoc with their pace and powerful running. The bench of CJ "Chay" Woodhouse, Luigie "Ponty Boy" O`Campo and Sam Price, provide plenty of impetus when added to the fray. Again, one of last year's Youth team, Price showed that he is more than capable of playing at senior level.

For the record tries were scored by Jack Bruton (2), Nathan Byrne (2), Sean Jones and Meic Owen, with fly half Kerion Skinner's accurate kicking supplying four conversions.

Coach Jeremy "Buck" Mccarthy said, "We now need to build on this performance to set a platform for success for the rest of the season."

On October 12 a dinner is being held to celebrate the lifetime achievement of Mike and Eunice Aylett. Special guests will include WRU President Dennis Gethin and former Welsh International and British Lion Tommy David. Tickets are available from the secretary Andrew Morgan.
