ABERGAVENNY Tennis Club held its annual club tournament finals day on its newly installed top of the range artificial clay courts.

Thankfully the weather held off to allow some very close matches to be played with many of the finals decided on a championship tie break.

Top honours this year in the mens’ and ladies’ singles went to the reigning champions, namely Jeremy Callard and Lisa Fawkes.

It was the same story in the ladies’ doubles with the combination of Brenda Saunders and Becky Rogers holding onto the string of successes they’ve enjoyed in recent years.

This year the mens’ doubles saw new victors in the form of Sam Hay and Jack Robinson. The mixed title was taken in a close game by Lisa Fawkes and Harry Boardman.

Chairman Bill Rogers congratulated all winners and runners-up who put on a spectacular performance.

Many thanks were also given to Alice Garlick, Angela Sharp and Emmeline’s Tea Rooms for the afternoon refreshments.

A special thank-you was also made to Geoff Ball (treasurer) who had overseen the recent installation of the new artificial clay courts. It is a real credit to the club to have such a top quality surface on offer.
