Pentwynmawr Athletic FC - 3 Abergavenny Town FC - 7

ABERGAVENNY Town who were sensational in their opening match of the season at Pen-y-Pound handing out a 10-0 drubbing to Trethomas Bluebirds with goals from Dean Morgan (4), Dan Jenkins (4), Craig Norman and Jake Heckles, carried that form into their second game of the season against Pentwynmawr, last Saturday. Dean Morgan opened the scoring after 15 minutes, which spurred Pentwynmawr in action and Abergavenny's debutant 'keeper Matty Johns was in good form to keep them at bay - first tipping a fierce shot over the bar then bravely diving amongst flying boots to gather the ball from the resultant corner. However, then came a moment Johns will want to forget when he fired into his own net after receiving the ball from a throw in. At the other end Pentwynmawr's 'keeper Rudakov saved well from Dan Jenkins as the score remained 1-1 at half time. Ten minutes into the second half the Town were ahead again when Aaron Norman stole in to meet a free kick arriving just before Rudakov and deftly heading the ball past him. Dean Morgan and Dan Jenkins showed great understanding, exchanging passes in a slick move which ended with Morgan getting his second as Town extended their lead. Jenkins got his reward for a tireless display when his shot on the turn crept inside Rudakov's post, and when Dean Morgan got a nick off Joe Palmers pile –driver the Town had a comfort able four goal cushion. Craig Norman scored the next goal seizing onto a loose ball and hitting a blistering shot past Rudakov. Two minutes from time Pentwynmawr had some consolation benefitting from hesitation in the Town defence and slotting home, but this was soon cancelled in the next minute when Dean Morgan struck again to hit four goals in a game in consecutive matches. Right at the end Pentynmawr scored from a long range effort. Abergavenny Town are next in action at Pen-y-Pound on Saturday September 6 (3.00pm) when they face newly promoted Cwmffrwdoer Sports.

Briton Ferry - 2 Monmouth Town - 4

A Nick Harrhy hat trick kick enabled Monmouth Town to sink Ferry and get their season rolling in the wake of a 2-1 defeat at Goytre. Despite playing some quality football, the Kingfishers lost 2-1 to the Plough Rd based outfit. Against Ferry on Saturday, a goal in the first two minutes from Josh Bull settled early nerves and the Kingfishers looked every inch Welsh League champions. Twenty two minutes later, it was Bull again chasing down and dispossessing the dithering goalkeeper as the ball ran free for Nick Harrhy (pictured) to make it 2-0. Unfortunately from an innocuous position Alderdice was adjudged to have impeded a Ferry attack and Jones blasted away the penalty to make it 2-1 at half time. Post interval the game seemed a little more even, but Monmouth just had that little bit extra determination and imagination and on 70 minutes a fine pass by Sam Palmer switched play to Ham whose pass into Harrhy was pinpoint. Harrhy's touch, turn and strike to make it 3-1 was an early contender for goal of the season. Another great strike saw Harrhy ghost in for a fine header to claim the match ball. Ferry pulled a goal back with a great strike from outside the box, but the points were heading back down the M4 to Monmouth. This Saturday Monmouth host Swansea based Garden Village at Pen-y-Pound with a 2.30pm kick-off.
