Coed Eva Athletic - 2

Blaenavon Blues - 1

THE Blues game against Coed Eva Athletic was switched to Cwmbran because of a frozen ground at Blaenavon and the only highlight of a drab first half was thirty minutes in when Blues captain Mike Waite forced the Coed Eva keeper to make a good save.

Coed Eva came out for the second half in a far more determined mood and it came as no

surprise when Shane Burchell put his side one up with a fine thirty metre free kick which gave

Blues keeper Lee Jones no chance.

Within a minute Athletic doubled their lead, Scott Diamond being the first to react when the ball rebounded off Jones' post.

With Coed Eva on top Jones made another good save from a quickly taken free kick.

Blues came more into the game and pulled a goal back when Steve Whites cross found Darren

Harris at the far post. Harris placed his shot into the far corner of the net and Blues were back

in the game.

As hard as they tried Blues could not find another way through the well organised Coed Eva

defence.

After last weeks win at Cwmbran Town this performance was very disappointing, although the

poor playing surface on Cwmbran Park does not favour a team like the Blues who like to play a

passing game.
