Malpas Utd FC - 0

Govilon FC - 2

GOVILON progress to the next round of the John Payne Barber Gwent FA Amateur Cup after a hard fought victory against Malpas played in dreadful conditions.

The weather certainly played its part in contributing to a goalless 90 minutes although Malpas might have found themselves the victors had they been less profligate in front of goal.

When they did hit the target they found Govilon's goalkeeper, Danny Parsons, in magnificent form as he pulled off a string of quality saves, in his man of the match performance.

The breakthrough came in the first period of extra time when Jake Heckles netted from the narrowest of angles. Further Govilon joy followed in the second period when Dean Morgan advanced down the left wing only to be met on the edge of the box by Malpas' goalkeeper, Nathan Williams, and when the ball rolled free, Craig Norman took aim to fire into the empty net from 20 metres to secure his sides name in the hat for the second round draw.

On Saturday Govilon return to Gwent County league action and travel to Trethomas (ko 2.00pm), whilst their Gwent Central league side, under their new management team of Lee Waddon and John Bailey, make the short journey to their former home at Govilon Recreation Ground to face Llanfoist (2.00pm).
