IN late August Abergavenny’s intrepid long distance runner and cyclist Lorna Shaw took part in the Llanberis Half Solo Duathlon, which is part of the Seriously Brutal Extreme Triathlon Events across the UK.
With over 40 starters of mixed ages and sexes, Lorna’s event consisted of two bike laps of 29 miles each, a run of five miles around Lake Padarn, and finally a nine mile trek up Wales’ highest mountain, Snowdon.
With only 35 entrants finishing the race, Lorna finished 25th overall in a time of six hours, 58 minutes and four seconds. However, she was the fifth female to finish the course, and first overall in the veteran category, an outstanding achievement!
Lorna is now waiting with bated breath for her selection for the Welsh team for the forthcoming World Championships that will be held in both Germany and Switzerland next year.
