Blaenavon Blues - 1

GOVILON are in the draw for round two of the Gwent FA Amateur Cup, but they can count themselves extremely fortunate they secured a result against Blaenavon.

They fell behind as early as the second minute when Chris Tyler's sliced clearance beat Govilon 'keeper Danny Parsons, and it was one way traffic towards their goal for the majority of the first half.

Blaenavon's Craig Tanner spurned the opportunity to put his side further ahead when he blasted wide with the goal at his mercy, and Parsons had to be at his best to deny Lloyd Jeffries.

Govilon showed some spark when Jamie Laurent saw his effort turned around the post by Blues 'keeper Lee Jones, but it was Blaenavon who showed most threat and Parsons agility was again on display to thwart a fine Darren Harris effort as half time approached.

Parsons, who by now was giving a man of the match performance, was called into action early in the second half to prevent the Blues stretching their lead, before Govilon saw a glimmer of hope when Dean Morgan met a Neville Harris cross only for his header to go narrowly wide.

It took until deep into the second half for Govilon to strike when Craig Thomas fired low and hard past Jones to draw his side level.

Two minutes later and close to the final whistle, Govilon went ahead when Dean Morgan fed Jamie Laurent whose measured drive beat the outstretched arm of Jones to ensure Govilon march on in pursuit of cup glory.

Next Saturday Govilon carry on their league campaign with an away trip to Panteg FC, (2pm kick-off.)
