ABERGAVENNY cycling ace Becky James was a member of the young Great Britain squad who returned from the Track World Cup in Beijing empty handed.
James and World Cup debutant Victoria Williamson failed to cut the mustard in the women's sprint and missed out on going through to the quarter finals.
James and Williamson returned to the fray for the women's keirin event, but despite taking third in the opening heat, the Abergavenny dynamo and her team mate were unable to make it out of the first round Repechage.
However, the large amount of track time, James and the other youngsters in Team Great Britain registered in Beijing will prove invaluable for the future of British cycling.
At last year's Beijing event, James achieved her first podium at a World Cup with third place in the Keirin, and although she couldn't replicate that performance, the 20-year-old cyclist will still keep fighting for a place in the Olympics.
Before Beijing, James explained, "I know the selectors will pick the athletes who they believe have the most chance of winning medals. So, starting with the Beijing World Cup, this is obviously the most important year in my career to date.
"Beijing isn't really a priority for me, it's just about getting as much race experience as possible. Whatever happens, I am going to really enjoy the next six months.
"Even if I don't get selected for London, the experience will hold me in good stead for the Rio Olympics.
