MONMOUTHSHIRE Golf Club's Nathan Humphreys won the Gwent Junior Matchplay Championship at Newport Golf Club last Monday.

Humphreys played Rhys Evans (Celtic Manor) in the semi-final, winning two and one and beat Liam Wilson (Celtic Manor) four and three in the final.

In doing so the reigning Gwent Junior Strokeplay Championship achieved 'the double' and rounded off a very successful year. Well done Nathan!

The club's delayed Men's 4BBB Knockout Final (The Ruther Cup) was contested over 36 holes last Saturday.

Richard Jones and Anthony Phillips were pitched against the father and son pairing of John and Richard Parsons.

Jones and Phillips started well and and led the morning round by two up. The Parsons struck back immediately after lunch and were all square playing the 21st . The next ten holes were closely contested before the Parsons struck with two birdies at 33rd and 34th and won one up up at the final hole.

The Junior Club Championship was contested by Nathan Humphreys and Callam Morris. Callam played well and came back from being four down after the first 18 holes to take Humphreys to the 35th hole before the one handicapper prevailed.

The Juniors have improved their golf skills dramatically this year. Callam Morris and Lewis Jones have both been selected to attend advanced tuition with the Golf union of Wales at the Celtic Manor this winter.

The final competition of the year will be played during half-term week next Monday.
