WEIGHTLIFTING wonder Kathryn Holley has been at it again - breaking records and claiming titles that is.
The 36-year-old teacher who pumps iron for Wales in her spare time, made the trip to Malta earlier this month to compete in the World Drug Free Powerlifting Federation (WDFPF) Single Lift Championships in Malta.
Holley explained, “I was the token Welsh representative out there and had never met the seven other Brits in the squad before, but they were a great bunch and we had a hell of a time, mainly after the lifting was all done and dusted.”
Holley won the Bench Press title in her category and was also crowned best overall lifter after she broke a British record and smashed a lift of 92.5kg.
Feeling good and game for more, Holley went all out for the world record of 96.5. Unfortunately on the day, fortune didn’t favour the brave.
Holley told the Chronicle, “I got it off my chest but just couldn’t quite see it through. But that’s the way it goes and there’s always next time.”
The next time for Holley will be this September when she travels to compete in Dublin.
Holley would like to thank the National Union of Teachers and Abergavenny’s Sundarbon Kitchen for all their support.
