Govilon AFC - 8 Trinant AFC - 1

GOVILON underlined their First Division credentials against Third Division opponents Trinant, as they eased their way into the last sixteen of the Amateur Cup.

Dean Morgan had two early efforts denied by the side netting and goalkeeper Edwards' legs and then Rhys Whiteman headed in only for the effort to be disallowed for offside.

The deadlock was broken as halftime approached when a marauding left wing run by Gareth Roberts saw him set up Neville Harris who fired home from the edge of the box.

Moments later, a Harris drive struck the crossbar and Whiteman was on hand to head home. Early in the second half Harris struck again, this time from the penalty spot as Govilon opened up a comfortable lead their possession deserved.

Dean Morgan added goal number four, whilst Govilon 'keeper, Danny Parsons saved well from a rare Trinant attack. Jamie Laurent banged in goal number five, just before Trinant had some reward pulling back a goal on the hour mark. Two minutes later Harris struck again slotting home from a Craig Thomas cross to claim his hat trick.

Jamie Wilkins and Ben Bannon's slick approach work yielded goal number seven when Bannon stooped to head home Wilkins' cross, and the last word went to midfielder Craig Norman who capped a fine solo effort with the final goal of the game.

On Saturday Govilon travel to table toppers Lliswerry (2.0pm), looking to dent their title challenge and improve on their own third place. The following Saturday sees the reverse fixture when Lliswerry travel to Govilon
