Goytre -3
Undy Athletic - 2
IN the muddiest of conditions Goytre welcomed Undy Athletic to Plough Road on Saturday knowing knowing victory and a defeat for Ammanford at Dinas Powys would hand them the Division Two title on a plate.
Although Ammanford kept to their side of the bargain by losing 6-0, Goytre lost their nerve at the crucial moment and were nipped in the bud 3-2 by a third-placed Undy who also beat the Plough Road outfit in an earlier encounter this season.
Undy took an initial lead with goals from James Barnes (penalty), Gareth Haywood and Chris Parry. Goytre did well to bounce back with strikes from Kyle Bassett and James Young but didn't have enough left in the tank to find the telling blow which would have secured them the title.
As a consequence Goytre still need one more point from their last half dozen fixtures to stand a chance of sealing the championship title, and mathematically at least, at the time of the Chronicle going to press, they could've have already done it in their massive local derby game away to Croesyceiliog yesterday (Wednesday) evening.
