Goytre - 5

Croesyceiliog - 3

TO date this season, Goytre seem to be setting a nerve wracking trend of turning two, even three goal deficits on their head and bouncing back big time go win the match comprehensively.

Saturday's match against Croesyceiliog was a case in point. After going down 1-3 to the visitors, the Plough Road outfit upped the ante to depart the park 5-3 victors, which means their 100 percent record remains intact and they stay sitting pretty at the top of Welsh League Division Two.

It was always going to be a physical encounter against local rival Croesy, especially since each side boasted players who were appearing against their former clubs.

From the off there were some good old fashioned tackles flying about, but it wasn't any of player-manager Carl Evans' men who drew first blood but Croesy's Jody Jenkins who slipped his marker and fired the ball past Scott James in the Goytre goal.

Mere minutes later and the league's top goalscorer Luke Prosser made it even stevens with a well struck equaliser.

Croesy struck next in the shape of former Plough Road player Chris Watkins who was nicely positioned to clinically bang home a deflected free kick.

Come the second half, Croesyceiliog surged 1-3 ahead with a another well-executed strike and seemed all set to run away with the game, but just like they did with Briton Ferry and Caerau in previous matches, Goytre turned the tides in spectacular fashion to not only equalise but win the game.

Fortunes switched in Goytre's favour when Kyle Bassett was laid low by Chris Pritchard and the ref blew for a penalty. Up stepped Luke Prosser to make it 2-3.

Next on the scoreboard was ex-Croesy man Calum Miles who got on the end of a cross from Kristian Wharton and was allowed both the space and time to make no mistake about sending his header into the back of the net.

As desperation crept into their game, the visitors conceded another penalty, allowing Prosser to bag his hat-trick and give Goytre the lead.

With Croesy reeling and wondering just what was happened, player-coach Simon Truman delivered the knockout blow after Simon Truman cut in from the right and delivered a precision perfect left-footed strike.

It's early days, but if Goytre maintain this kind of form throughout the season, then they're in with a more than realistic chance of gaining top flight status for the first time in their history when we get to the business end of things in 2013.

Meanwhile in Gwent County Division One, Govilon returned from Coed Eva Athletic with the points after beating them 3-5. Sadly for the Blues, their games against Panteg was postponed.

Elsewhere in Division Two, the Mardy suffered their first loss of the season when they were royally stuffed 1-5 by a visiting Malpas United side.

And in Division Three, the Abergavenny Thursdays also got their first taste of defeat this season when Marshfield narrowly beat them 5-4 in a high-scoring affair which could have gone either way.
