GOYTRE remain nine points off the top spot in Welsh League Division One following their 5-2 drubbing of a basement battling Aberbargoed Buds outfit.

The Plough Road team are currently in sixth place on 35 points having won ten, drawn five and lost five.

On a Saturday of fixtures where indiscipline trumped endeavour and the Division Three encounter between Llantwit Major and Liswerry was abandoned when a British record of seven players were given their marching orders, Goytre maintained a collective cool head and steady nerve to nip Aberbargoed in the bud and run out victorious.

Goytre cruised to the win courtesy of four goals, including one from Luke Prosser and a penalty from Craig Moses whose tally now stands at 17 for this campaign.

The Buds netted through Craig MacDonald and Dafydd Brewer but still remain well and truly at the bottom of the heap in this 16-strong division.

A gap of nine points is all that now lies between league leaders Haverfordwest County and Goytre, who will look to reduce the deficit when they visit second placed Taffs Well tomorrow (Friday) for a 7.30pm kick-off.
