Race FC - 0

Govilon FC - 4

GOVILON transferred their early season league form into the County Motors Cup on the weekend with a 0-4 rout of third division outfit Race.

Race started brightly and defended well to keep a rampant Govilon side at bay but the opening of the floodgates was always inevitable at some point.

Twenty minutes in and Richard McCarthy gave Govilon the lead with a well taken header from a pinpoint cross by the ever dependable S. Lane.

This seemed to settle the Govilon side and they added another goal before half time when Jake Heckles chased a lost cause and cooly slotted the ball over the advancing keeper's head.

Come the second-half and Govilon made it 3-0 when Ben Bannon scored a glorious goal from a shot way out on the left which beat the keeper to the far post.

By this stage Govilon were getting forward in numbers and playing some quality football.

Local youngster Liam Wildy entered the fray and went close on a couple of occasions.

Seventeen-year-old Jake Heckles capped a good individual performance and finished the game when he took three defenders before sending the ball rocketing into the net to make it 4-0 and place Govilon in the hat for the next round.
