Govilon - 4
Fairfield United - 1
GOVILON finally put the dismal losing trend which has dogged them since November to bed on the weekend with a storming 4-1 win over Fairfield United.
In what was by far the best performance of the season to date by Govilon, they dominated in every area from the first whistle to the last.
Fifteen minutes in and Govilon got the start they wanted when Dean Morgan was brought down in the box and slotted home the subsequent penalty.
After 25 minutes, Rhys Whiteman rifled home from a corner to give Govilon at 2-0 cushion.
As the interval loomed, good work by Jake Heckles and Mathew Heritage down the flank led to a Jamie Wilkins special, as he scored from just inside the box to make it 3-0 at half-time.
Determined to go down fighting, a tenacious Fairfield came out of the blocks in the second half and applied the pressure.
Their determination to depart the field with at least one goal paid dividends when a corner led to a loose ball in the box and a resulting goal.
Leading by two goals, Govilon struggled to keep the momentum alive and were fortunate not to concede another goal.
Good defending from Gareth Roberts, Jamie Wilkins and Leon Gilchrist gave Govilon the platform to regain control of the game and the result was never in doubt when some good work led to Mathew Heritage hitting home a shot to wrap proceedings up nicely.
Elsewhere in Gwent County Division Three, the Abergavenny Thursdays made a fist of things and took Sebastopol to the cleaners to the tune of 4-1.
Meanwhile, in Division Two, the Mardy visited Sudbrook Cricket Club and came away with a 2-2 draw for their troubles.
