Govilon FC - 2
Panteg FC - 1
GOVILON who have taken time to settle into their new home at Pen-y-pound Stadium clicked into gear on Saturday toppling league leaders Panteg.
This victory comes on the back of their 6-1 success at neighbours Clydach in their previous outing.
The match against Panteg was a tight but absorbing affair made all the more difficult for the home side when defensive lynchpin Jamie Summers was harshly dismissed as half time approached.
Govilon needed to draw on all of their character as Panteg took the lead early in the second half, but hit back ten minutes later when Craig Norman netted from close range to give the ten men a lifeline.
With 20 minutes remaining Norman was on the score-sheet again, this time from the penalty spot as Govilon had the lead for the first time. They weathered late Panteg pressure with defenders Rhys Whiteman, Stephen Morgan, Joe Palmer and Jimmy Davies taking the plaudits in holding firm, but this was an excellent all round effort from every player, as they defied the odds to come out on top.
On Saturday Govilon are in cup action at Pen-y-pound against Newport based Cromwell FC in the second round of the County Motors Challenge Cup. Kick off is 2.30pm.
