Fleur–de-lys Welfare AFC - 3

Govilon AFC - 7

FLEUR–DE-LYS switched the venue to the 3G surface at Pontllanfraith Leisure Centre for a match which was a goal bonanza.

Govilon were quickly into their stride and took the lead after ten minutes when Jamie Wilkins scored off a Gareth Roberts corner. They soon doubled their lead when Dean Morgan and Neville Harris combined to allow Harris to score.

Craig Norman shaved the post as Fleur continued to wobble at the back, and in the next minute he waltzed through their defence before calmly slotting past 'keeper Liam James to notch number three for his side.

Harris was unlucky to see his thunderbolt rebound of the bar and then Dean Morgan forced James into a smart save.

Against the run of play Fleur pulled back a goal after 35 minutes, but were undone moments later when Ben Bannon scored from close range after being set up by Morgan.

Morgan got his reward as half time approached when he mesmerised James to slide the ball past him, but Fleur immediately hit back to give the match 2-5 score-line at half time.

Just after the break James was fortunate to see Dean Morgan's shot rebound off the post into the safety of his arms, and then his side reduced the deficit when they converted a penalty to come within two goals of the Govilon.

This was short lived and as close as they got, as in the next minute debutant Matthew Bowen opened his account after some neat approach work, to score number six, and the goal feast was rounded off with five minutes remaining when a dogged Stephen Lane fought off James and fired into the corner of his net.

This win moves Govilon into third position in the league. On Saturday they are in cup action, at home to Cefn Fforest in the second round of the County Motors Challenge Cup (3.00pm), a trophy they last lifted in 2009.

Everyone at the club would like to thank their lady volunteers for their support in a fundraising walk from Brynmawr to Govilon.
