GLANGRWYNEY played their first home match of the season and bagged their third successive victory with a resounding seven wicket win over previously unbeaten Luctonians. Glan elected to field and the evergreen Haydn Davies (two for 29 off 12) who like a good wine is getting better with age, bowled the visitors' opener J. Ethinger with his third ball. His immaculate length bowling produced five successive maidens and he was well supported by Mike Devoy (two for 33 off ten), with Devoy getting the dangerous James Hatford (24) caught behind by Dan Evans with a great diving catch. Teenager Richard James (one for 20 off seven) again bowled well, getting a good catch by fellow teenager Tom Devoy (son of Mike), but it was Tom Miller (four for 41 off nine) who got amongst the wickets. On leave from university, Miller bowled three batsmen with good pace and got a catch by Mike Devoy in the deep. Colin Griffiths (one for 20 off three) held on to a caught and bowled from a sliced air shot by J. hunt (38) and it was left to the combination of Miller and Devoy to finish off Lucs for 146 all out in the 41st over with Miller returning the compliment and taking a catch off Devoy's bowling. In reply the Glang forced a modest run rate of just three an over. Openers Paul Daniel (23) and Dan Evans (36) batted sensibly, laying a solid foundation of 71 off 21 overs before Evans fell LBW. Daniel and the prolific Nick Jones (12) then departed quickly but Tom Miller (53 n.o.) was joined by the experienced all rounder Jonty Jones (10 n.o.) and the pair saw Glang home in the 35th over with Miller getting man of the match. A special mention must also go to Mike Rouse and co for preparing a good wicket and outfield for an engaging match sponsored by Abergavenny's Tasty 'Tatoes.
