FOR the first time in seven matches, Glangrywyney batted first after losing the toss at home to Ledbury. Paul Daniel (69) and Bob Howell (4) put on 17 for the first wicket before Howell was caught behind. It then became the Daniel/Jones run show with run machine Tim Jones (105) hitting a superb century containing 12 boundaries. Jones was well supported by the ever dependable Daniel and the two put on a 183 partnership before Daniel was stumped. Nick Jones (41) and Mike Devoy (30) further plundered the Ledbury attack to the extent that 100 runs were scored off the last ten overs leaving teenagers Gethin Price (17 not out) and Richard James (three not out) to get very close to the magic 300 run mark on 293-5. Glang opening bowlers Haydn Davies (three for 17 off 12) and Mike Devoy (three for 28 off 12) soon got amongst the Ledbury batsmen and left them in tatters at 41 for six off 19 overs. The openers took three sharp catches with Geraint James and Tom Devoy helping out with the extras. Colin Griffiths (0 for 14 off five) was unable to bag a wicket, so it was left to Richard James (two for nine off seven) and Gethin Prcie (one for 11 off four) to wrap up the Ledbury innings, with James just missing out on a hat-trick. This mammoth win by 208 runs is Glang's fifth on the bounce and leaves them in third place, just a fraction of a point behind Luctonians and top of the table Builth Wells, who Glang are scheduled to visit next weekend. This match was sponsored by White Hall guest house, Glangrywyney.
