ON Saturday Glangrwyney Seconds consolidated their top of the table position with a comfortable eight wicket win at home against Stroller Seconds.

Skipper Colin Griffiths inserted Strollers and Haydn Davies (two for 20 off 11) and Richard James (0 for 17 off 11) bowled very tightly with no luck.

Skipper Griffiths got the breakthrough with the score at 23 off 12 overs and Ben Bowker (four for 20 off 12) then made further inroads helped by good catches from Tony Jones, Richard James and Rob Richards.

Davies in his second spell just missed a hat-trick but Strollers dug in to use all their 45 overs and finish on 91 for seven.

Opening batsmen Bob Howell (20) and Rob Richards (25 n.o) gave Glang a solid start putting on 51 for the first wicket with Richards hitting a superb six over the square leg boundary.

Tony Jones (18) joined Richards and the two almost got Glang over the finishing line, leaving Lewis Morgan to hit the winning run in the 37th over.

Glang are now assured of promotion, with their last match of the season against Brockhampton fourths being the championship decider.

AHEAD of their match against Strollers, the Glang made a significant step on their quest for promotion when they easily accounted for Luctonians thirds and won by 120 runs.

For the first time in five games skipper Colin Griffiths lost the toss and the Glang were duly inserted.

Opening batsman Geraint was run out without facing a ball in a misunderstanding with fellow opener Lewis Morgan, who himself was bowled without troubling the scores.

Colin Griffiths (10) then joined Tony Jones (67) and these two put on 33 for the third wicket before Griffiths got himself bowled.

Roger Edwards (17) then put on a further and valuable 48 runs before he was dismissed.

Batting was not easy on a pitch of variable bounce combined with some erratic bowling, and when Tony Jones was bowled for an excellent 67, it was essential that Glan batted the 45 overs.

This they did, with valuable contributions from David Lewis (9 n.o.) and Haydn Davies (5), with elder statesman Gwyn Williams (2) being unlucky to be bowled by a shooter.

It was left to 12-year-old Morgan Vaughan on his league debut to help David Lewis get Glan pass the 150 mark and three battling bonus points as they finished on 155 for nine.

After tea, Glan took to the field with opening bowler Haydn Davies (Six for 13 off seven) getting a wicket with his fifth bowl.

Davies, assisted by Richard James (one for 15 off five) ripped through the fragile Luctonian batting and helped himself to two bowled and caught with Tony Jones taking a superb one handed diving catch to his right.

Colin Griffiths (Two for three off two) then wrapped up the innings to give Glan an 18 points

win.
