Glangrwyney CC’s win over Knighton on Teme has earned them promotion to Marches division one as unbeaten champions by a margin of 42 points over Marden, who will also be playing division one cricket next season.
With the league already won the visitors had to work hard for the victory after being put in on a very damp pitch.
The Knighton bowlers were on top for the first half of the Glangrwyney innings as wickets fell for not many runs in an unfamiliar batting line up.
Mike Devoy (10) and Luke Bowen (13) opened the innings but before the score reached 30 were both out closely followed by Lewis Morgan and Dan Bowen.
Slowly and steadily James McIlroy and Huw Griffiths stopped the rot, putting on 30 before Griffiths was out for 24.
Gethin Price and Eryl Cook fell quickly and the visitors were in dire straits at 70-7. Fortunately McIlroy remained and helped latecomer Tim Jones put on 54 for the eighth wicket before he was out for a valuable 17.
Julian Hardwick added a few more with Jones who was last man out for 46 , leaving Josh Devoy not out once again. The visitors total of 133 was felt to be below par with the pitch drying out after tea.
Knighton started rapidly but also lost early wickets to Mike Devoy (2-25) and Huw Griffiths (1-47) and at 45-4 the visitors looked favourites. However middle order batsman Kitchen had other ideas, taking the score to 90-5. At this point Eryl Cook came on and took a match winning 3-13 off three overs.
Wickets at the other end to Hardwick (1-22) and Luke Bowen (1-1) saw Glangrwyney home by 18 runs and the end to an unbeaten season
