THE long weeks of preparation and graft will come to a head this Saturday as Kieran Gething gets in the ring and puts it all on the line for a title shot against Mountain Ash’s Tony Dixon.

And although the 24-year-old is not taking anything for granted, he’s already thinking in terms of lifting the Welsh Vacant Welterweight on Saturday night.

“I don’t think Dixon has the intelligence or experience to deal with me” explained Gething who has recently signed with MTK Global.

“Losing is not an option for me on the night. It’s a done deal. I’m just counting down the days to fight night and watching my weight.”

Gething who is a lifelong Liverpool fan laughed, “Come Saturday I’m looking forward to the double which involves the Reds beating Cardiff and me bringing home the title.”

On a serious note though, if Gething beats Dixon on Saturday and gets his hands on his first pro title it will be the culmination of a lifelong goal for the up and comer.

Not that he’s prepared to rest on his laurels though.

Gething explained that he sees Dixon as a stepping stone to bigger and better things with the backing of his world class management team.

“I believe I can go all the way and I know MTK cam get me the fights that will develop me and make sure I’m remembered.

“I always said I wanted to pick up my first title by the end of the year and I want to build on that and hopefully be back in the ring before Christmas or possibly January.”

If you fancy some good old-fashioned pre-fight build-up, why not get yourself down to the Newport Centre this Friday where Gething and Dixon will be having a weigh-in ahead of their Saturday showdown which will be broadcast live on S4C.
