TO ensure he fits back into his jumpsuits snugly without splitting them on stage again, Abergavenny’s own Elvis (Keith Davis) has signed up for the Healthy Heart Get Fit Challenge - and the North Gwent Cardiac Rehabilitation Charity are looking for 15 other people to join the ‘King’
on the rocky but rewarding road to fitness.
Fundraising and Events Co-Ordinator Penny Nurse explained, “We are looking for 15 people to get fit, become healthy and ride an agreed distance of their choice at this year’s Festival of Cycling on July 16.
“This four month challenge is open to anyone over 18 years and is the perfect opportunity for those wanting to change their lifestyle by getting fit while making new friends and raising money for your local heart charity, North Gwent Cardiac Rehab.”
Penny added, “During the four month programme you’ll join Elvis as you safely build up your fitness and confidence levels under the guidance of a qualified and experienced personal trainer who will monitor your progress and help with your personal training programme. You will also receive advice on diet and nutrition and have the opportunity to take part in monthly team challenges, share tips and train together.”
So if you you fancy picking up the gauntlet and getting as fit as a fiddle, here’s what is expected from you. And unlike Elvis you don’t need a jumpsuit, you just need to jump. Uh huh!
Enter and compete in one of the Cycling Festival Rides – 20 or 40 miles.
Attend regular group training sessions.
Undertake a monthly “Special Team Challenge” such as Canoeing on the River Wye or climbing the Sugar Loaf.
Take part in some media sessions (group photos for the paper, radio interviews etc).
Provide an appropriate cycle for the event – the group has experts who can help with equipment maintenance.
Raise a minimum of £250 for North Gwent Cardiac Rehabilitation and Aftercare Charity.
