PARALYMPIC Silver and Bronze medal winner Ben Rushgrove was putting the next generation of athletes through their paces at Llantilio Pertholey Primary School last week.
The GB athlete who will be competing in the Rio Olympics this August, was on hand to helm a very energetic and fun filled afternoon at the school.
Rushgrove, who won Silver in the 2008 Paralympic Games 100m, and Bronze in the London 2012 200m, joined ‘Sportivator’ Andy and led the children through some some fitness circuits, star jumps, and push ups.
He then and hosted an assembly with a Q&A session to help inspire the children into participating in more sport and exercise.
Every child and even some of the teachers took part in the activities, and many parents and grandparents helped by sponsoring the children to complete the fitness circuits in order to raise money for the school to buy more sports equipment.
Headteacher, Mrs Joanne Bayton, explained, “The event was a huge success. All pupils took part in a fun activity which they all enjoyed and got to meet and talk to an Olympic athlete. There was an added bonus of helping to raise funds for some new sports equipment in school too. Ben was very inspiring and hopefully has enthused the children into taking part in more sports both in and out of school.”
