Newbridge B - 23
Meanwhile in the Premier Division, Abergavenny 'A' had a fine win over Newbridge B.
Newbridge came to the game having a two point advantage in the league table, so the match provided Abergavenny with an opportunity to climb the ranks.
The game started with the combination of Debbie Gwilliam as GS and Amy Woolen as GA, who both produced some superb shooting and link work together within the shooting circle. The strong defence of Newbridge B was on form and made both Debbie and Amy work for every goal scored.
Debbie Gwilliam demonstrated good movement on court and received some precise passes from Andrea Prosser as WA and Kath Bowen as C. The attacking pair negotiated their way to feeding some pin point passes to the circle and the team went in at half time with a 26-15 lead over Newbridge. Kelly Morris came on as GS at half time.
Newbridge B reformatted their team throughout the game trying different combinations of attack and defence, however, Abergavenny A were strong from the off, with clean passes and good interceptions throughout.
The defence consisted of Cerys Van Der Vyver as GK, Jess Davies as GD and Siobhan MacQuillan as WD. The cohesion in and around the circle pressured and forced Newbridge to make mistakes, however, the second quarter for Newbridge was their strongest, netting eight goals.
Errors by Newbridge were picked off by Jess Davies to work with Siobhan MacQuillan who attacked at speed bringing the ball down the court. The shooters Kelly Morris and Amy Woolen swapped positions for the final quarter but continued to maintain a good movement and fantastic shooting from the edge of the circle.
The team further demonstrated their spirit and put their training from coach Stuart Stenhouse into play for a contented win.
