Willows Ladies - 0

Abergavenny Women - 8

ABERGAVENNY travelled to Cardiff on Sunday to kick off their Welsh Cup campaign against lower league opposition Willow Ladies.

The outing was a great opportunity for manager Richie Jeremiah to give the youngsters in the team a start.

No fewer than five teenagers were in the starting XI, and whilst the game was expected to be comfortable nothing was taken for granted against a Willows team who competed well.

A superb corner from Lauren Daniels on 10 minutes found the head of top scorer Laura Davies who netted for an early lead.

16 year old Eliza Atkins doubled her side’s advantage after 20 minutes, firing home from close range.

Willows dug in and made it difficult for the premier league outfit but 40 minutes in captain Ceri Hudson went on a barn storming run through the defence and finished neatly to make it 3-0 at the interval.

Ceri Hudson bagged her brace five minutes into the second half and the result was never in doubt. Coming off the bench Kate Jeremiah made an immediate impact when she scored from 30 yards past the stranded keeper with her very first touch. Eliza Atkins scored her second on the hour mark as Willows ran out of gas.

Centre half Katie Adams headed home number seven from a Jeremiah corner whilst record goal scorer Lyndsey Davies came off the bench after 70 minutes to complete the scoring.

A comfortable victory and the second round draw sees another lower league side Cascade Ladies coming to town on November 18 as Abergavenny’s Welsh Cup dream goes on.
