Pontypridd Town FC - 1
ABERGAVENNY Town were unlucky to draw a blank in a game against Pontypridd Town where they deserved more.
Town started well and forced a succession of corners but could not gain any advantage from their good early play.
As it was, Pontypridd struck on the half hour when Town’s captain Jamie Summers fouled in the penalty area, and up stepped Ponty’s Danny Hooper to score from the spot, despite Tom Indge getting a hand to the ball.
The remainder of the half was lacklustre but Town picked up in the second half and had a decent claim for a penalty for handball themselves, but this was denied by referee Matthew Street.
Later Street was Town’s saviour, refusing to award Pontypridd a goal after their claims the ball had crossed the goal-line after an almighty goal-mouth scramble.
From this point Town really kicked on, raining in shot after shot on the Pontypridd goal, but found Ponty’s goalkeeper Ryan Griffiths in fine form as he denied Town time and again with a string of spectacular saves, including one on 90 minutes when he got his fingertips to a shot to push the ball over the bar as Town pressed hard for the elusive equaliser.
However Pontypridd claimed the points and rise to fourth in the table whilst Town remain in 12th position.
On Saturday, Town face the long trek to the Amman Valley to take on Cwmamman United (2.00pm). The club will run a supporter’s coach leaving Pen-y-Pound at 11.00am
