Abergavenny Town FC - 1

Garden Village FC - 2

FRESH from their excellent away win at Pontardawe, when Dan Jenkins bagged a brace, Town were hopeful of adding to their points haul against a side who shipped five goals in their last outing.

But just to underline how inconsistent form is in Division One, this was not how things played out. Town made a bright start but the visitors took the lead on 15 minutes when number Alex Giadelli found the back of the net. Jac Evans went close with a header, Curtis Methven skimmed the bar and an Aaron Norman flick was just short of target but otherwise it was a quiet first half for the Town.

It was on the hour mark that Town drew level when a sweeping cross from the left was met by George Clarke.

Town failed to build on this and the visitors restored their lead 15 minutes from time, and more Town woe followed when Joe Palmer got his marching orders late on after picking up two yellow cards.

Right at the death Town pressed hard and it took a dramatic goal-line clearance by Garden Village to preserve their lead and go home with all the points.

On Saturday Town turn their attention to Round One of the Welsh Cup and an away trip to Croesyceiliog. (kick-off is at 2pm)

Both Town’s reserve side and U16s lost their fixtures to the weather, and the reserves are without a scheduled fixture this weekend but Town’s U16 side travel to Caldicot Town on Sunday (ko 2.15pm)

Abergavenny Town Women, side-lined for so long of late, get a welcome taste of action in the Women’s FAW Cup, away at Merthyr Town.
