Abergavenny Town - 1
Risca United - 0
TOWN made it two wins in six days with a narrow victory over early season strugglers Risca United and in doing so showed their commitment to giving young local talent its chance.
Town took to the field last Friday night with two 19-year-olds in their ranks in the shape of Sam Rashdi, in for the injured Jac Evans at left back, and Curtis Methven.
Town also had 17-year-olds Sam Jones and Lance Lewis on the bench together with 16-year-old protege Jack Sage.
Town’s only goal but the one which settled this affair came early in the match when Bradd Jones floated in a free kick from the left which Sean Feeley met with expert control before rifling the ball past Chorley in Risca’s goal.
Bradd Jones went close with a couple of long range efforts and the visitors belied their lowly position by proving a tough nut for Town to crack. With a little more composure in front of goal Risca might have taken something from the game.
As it was Town bagged the points, and after a slow start to the season are starting to put some distance between themselves and the bottom three.
Town start their Welsh Cup trail on Saturday traveling to their division stablemates, Swansea University, who are riding high in Division Two of the Welsh League and still enjoying the momentum of their promotion winning season last year.
Town’s next two home league matches against Dinas Powys and AFC Llwydcoed will both be Friday night affairs as Town continues the experiment.
Both Town’s reserve fixture at Caldicot and the Youth’s fixture at home to Treharris at the weekend fell victim to the weather.
