Cwmamman United - 2

Abergavenny Town - 3

ABERGAVENNY Town stopped the rot on Saturday and bagged three very welcome points against Cwmamman United.

Missing three key players in Dafydd Brewer (work), Brett Morgan (work) and Dane Griffiths (suspended), Town made their longest trek of the season in the 130 mile round trip to United’s Grenig Park ground in Glanamman, where the pitch was thawing after a recent frost, but remained playable if slippery.

Town thought they had got off to a spectacular start when Craig Norman netted in the first minute but his effort was ruled out for off-side.

After this Town had to endure some serious pressure, with keeper Tom Indge alert to tip a shot over the bar as the half hour approached, and even smarter ten minutes later, saving well, low down to his right.

Indge was undone in the next minute with a looping shot from 25 yards as Cwmamman took the lead.

In a game which flowed from end to end, and with the standard of play a credit to both teams, Town were next to strike, three minutes from the break, when Luke Lewis was set free to equalise.

Town’s joy was short lived as Cwmamman regained the lead on the stroke of half time with a snap shot from just outside the box.

In the second half Town introduced former Forest Green man, Jordan Harford, but it was old time favourite Jamie Laurent who brought Town level after Craig Norman slipped the ball to him, for him to find the top corner.

With Town in the ascendancy Sean Feeley drew a good save from Cwmamman’s ‘keeper and player-manager Mark Snell, but he could do nothing with 15 minutes remaining as Harford grabbed Town’s winner.

So after taking only one point from the last nine available, things are looking up for Town.

On Saturday, Town play their last home fixture of the year, home to Aberdare (2.00pm). Meanwhile Town’s reserve side went down 1-4 at Penypound to AFC Llwydcoed.
