Aberdare Town FC - 1

ABERGAVENNY Town ended their home fixtures for the year in fine style with a win over high-fliers Aberdare.

Aberdare Town arrived at Pen-y-Pound boasting very real promotion credentials, having been amongst the front runners so far this season.

Town suffered a blow before a ball was kicked, losing two front-men in Sean Feeley (rib injury) and Dane Griffiths (flu).

Undaunted, Town took the game to Aberdare from the kick-off, and if lady luck had deserted them recently, she returned when Craig Norman’s shot skimmed off his shin and the ball looped over Aberdare ’keeper Clint Forbes to nestle in the back of his net.

Luke Lewis had the chance to increase Town’s lead but blasted over the bar with the goal at his mercy, before Town settled for a 1-0 interval lead.

In the second half, Aberdare showed why they are amongst the leaders and Warren Jones reduced the arrears six minutes in, powering in a shot which Town ‘keeper Tom Indge got a hand to, but could not prevent the ball crossing the line.

Indge was soon in action again, saving well with his feet, as Aberdare threatened to tighten their grip on the game.

As it was, Luke Lewis got Town’s second and so important goal eight minutes from time.

Two minutes later Jordan Harford sealed Aberdare’s fate with Town’s third, as Town climb three places in the table to ninth.

On Saturday, Town play their final match of the year, before a three week Christmas break, when they travel to the Mayhill area of Swansea to take on West End FC (2.00pm).

Town’s reserve side had a wasted journey to Treowen Stars, being told of their postponement within minutes of arriving at their destination. On Saturday they entertain Ely Rangers Reserves at Pen-y-Pound (2.00pm).
