Caerau FC - 2
ABERGAVENNY Town returned to their stamping ground of Pen-y-Pound for the first time since early December and despite some evident rustiness in the opening third, the end result proved there’s no place quite like home for Aber when it comes to delivering the goods.
A shaky start by Town ended with goalkeeper Indge failing to deal with a Caerau strike, as he allowed the ball to slip through his hands and give the high-flying visitors a lead after 20 minutes.
Town were still smarting from a 3-0 mid-week reversal at Pontypridd Town and knew a win would see them leapfrog their opponents to third place in the table.
With this incentive they started to pile on the pressure, and Richard Jeremiah brought his side level on 38 minutes to increase his standing in the leading scorer’s table.
Early into the second half Craig Norman pushed Town ahead with a stunning free kick which left Caerau’s keeper Matthew Rees grasping thin air.
At this point you would have expected Town to take the bull by the horns, but they allowed Caerau back into the game in the very next minute, to level the match.
Dean Morgan was running riot on the right wing and it was from his good work that Town went ahead for the second time when his short pass into the box found Aaron Norman who slotted home 65 minutes in.
It was the same tactic which undid Caerau on the 74 minute mark. This time Morgan fed Richard Jeremiah who grabbed his second to give Town a two goal cushion.
Morgan who had been the epitome of selfless play, bagged his reward in the final minute when Caerau succumbed to his solo run and fine finishing.
On Saturday Town travel to Gelli in the Rhondda Valley to play Sporting Marvels in round five of the FAW Trophy. A supporter’s bus leaves Penypound at 10:45am
