West End Town FC - 2
Abergavenny Town - 1
ABERGAVENNY Town could have and should have won their game against West End Town, but they gave away a soft penalty in the final few minutes and paid the price.
Town opened brightly, and after only five minutes Dan Jenkins forced a good save from West End’s ‘keeper.
The home side began to play, and after 15 minutes it was only the upright which saved Town. The first-half ended with both sides wasting their chances.
In a free flowing second-half West End broke the deadlock on the hour when a defensive slip by Town gave the hosts the easiest of tap-ins at the far post.
With ten minutes remaining the hosts were reduced to ten men for a dangerous tackle on Nathan Davies who later limped off. The resultant free kick saw Owen Vaughan put Town level when his cross eluded everyone and flew into the net.
The equaliser gave Town a boost and if anything they looked the more likely to win the game, but they needlessly conceded a penalty with minutes remaining to make West End’s day.
On Saturday Town return home to Pen-y-Pound Stadium entertaining Dinas Powys (2pm), and will be looking to return to form after two narrow way defeats.
Meanwhile Town’s reserve side fixture at home to table topping Cardiff Met University last Saturday fell victim to the weather. They travel this Saturday in a reverse of the first team fixture, to Dinas Powys (2pm).
