STM Sports - 1

Abergavenny Town FC paid their respects to all the servicemen and women who lost their lives in all conflicts with a wreath laying ceremony at Pen-y-Pound Stadium prior to kick off on Saturday.

STM Sports arrived at Pen-y-Pound with the memory of last season’s 7-0 battering fresh in the minds of many of the supporters.

However Town are a different side these days and they were determined things were going to be different this time around.

Both sides paid each other a lot of respect in a first-half devoid of goals. From Town’s point of view the game only sparked into life deep into the second half.

On 70 minutes Town were awarded a free kick from outside the box which saw Richard Jeremiah float in a pin point free kick onto the head of Nathan Davies whose deft header found the top corner of the net

Tom Indge in Towns goal was next in action producing a finger-tip save to preserve Town’s advantage.

While at the other end live-wire Jeremiah shot narrowly wide, and moments later collided with the STM ‘keeper as he tried to take the ball around him. This incident saw the keeper leave the field.

Deep into added time STM were awarded a corner from which Riccardo Torrao unleashed a fierce volley into the roof of the net.

So, Town lost out on making it eight straight wins but the point gained keeps them in second place in the league. Town’s reserve side match away at Croesyceiliog, fell victim to the weather, as did Town’s Youth cup tie at Rhiwbina.

Town’s away fixture at league leaders, Croesyceiliog on Friday night has been postponed due to Wales playing Denmark in Cardiff on the same night. Town return to action on Saturday, November 24, entertaining Aberbargoed Buds (ko 2.00pm).
