Garden Village FC - 1

GARDEN Village continued their promotion push with a narrow victory at Pen-y-Pound Stadium over Abergavenny Town.

The all-decisive goal came after ten minutes with a ball into the box from the right. Town’s defence were slow to clear the ball, Sion Williams was the quickest to dispossess, and fired home from close range.

Both sides had further chances but none were really clear cut and it was the visitors who went into the break with the advantage.

The second-half was punctuated by lengthy delays, and when play got going it was the same tit-for-tat fare, with neither side able to trouble the scorer.

Towards the end player/manager Ben Bannon entered the fray and gave Town more of a cutting edge, but both defences held firm as referee Hulbert added an extra ten minutes added time, in what was becoming a tense affair, but it was the visitors who went home with the spoils.

Town are without a fixture on Saturday, and play their final home match of the season entertaining Aberbargoed Buds on Saturday, May 5. Kick off is 2.30pm.

Town’s reserve side were also without a fixture last Saturday, but gave their best performance of the season in mid-week coming out on top against champion’s-elect Cardiff Met University in a pulsating seven goal thriller at Pen-y-Pound, with goals from Owen Vaughan, Sean Feeley, Sam Jones and Ben Bannon. On Saturday they face Risca United at Pen-y-Pound (2.30pm).
