West End FC - 1

HAVING lost top spot in the league table to Monmouth Town, Town quickly regained leadership of the division following a rout of Swansea based West End FC.

West End started brightly but were set back on their heels after 13 minutes when Rhys Tandy put his side ahead.

More West End woe followed seven minutes later when Nathan Davies swooped to send the ball into the right hand corner of the visitors’ net and on the half hour Sean Feeley gave his side a commanding early lead.

West End’s troubles mounted when they lost a man to a red card, and Town almost increased their lead from the free kick. It was from a subsequent free kick that Town went ahead, when Curtis Methven blasted home close to half time.

In the second half, just to show that no-one ever gives up in the Welsh Football League, West End scored on the hour mark.

Yet shortly after they were hit by a quick fire Jeremiah blitz when he was set free in West End’s half and raced towards goal to score with some aplomb. He scored again a couple of minutes later when the unselfish Tandy set him up for a close range tap-in.

Recent addition Dan Hartland spurned a couple of chances before scoring to seal Town’s rout.

Saturday’s result sees Town shake off the disappointment of two lacklustre displays to regain pole position, two points ahead of Monmouth Town and four points ahead of Caldicot Town, with a game in hand over both, as the title chase really hots up.

On Saturday Town are without a fixture, with the spotlight falling on Town’s reserve team fixture again Dinas Powys (2pm) at Pen-y-Pound in what will be newly appointed Ross Melrose’s first match as player/manager.
