ABERGAVENNY Town Girls Under 13s began pre-season with a bang after they won the Treowen tournament on the weekend.
The team has added three new players to an already strong squad, although they travelled light on the weekend due to holidays and other commitments.
With Aber’s regular keeper unable to attend, new signing Gracie Grosvenor helped the team by slotting in between the posts.
Midfielders Chelleter Graham-Sawyers, Sophie Engel and Mia Sherrard put in a dominant display in the middle. New signing Bobbi Allcock played alongside Bella Wilce in defence. Meg Welford and Isabella Rudge worked with fellow new signing Eleri Jones to form an attacking trio.
The girls started off well with a 1-0 win over Celtic Stars. New signing Eleri Jones scored an unstoppable strike.
Up next the team cruised to a 4-0 victory over Coed Eva, with Eleri bagging a hat-trick, and Gracie Grosvenor scoring an excellent strike. The third match saw Abergavenny outplay Pontardawe. Meg Welford grabbed a well worked brace and Eleri netted the third.
The final was a tense 0-0 draw with Treowen. After a penalty shot out, the Aber Girls were crowned the overall tournament winners with a 4-3 victory.
The full season kicks off in September.
