Caldicot Town - 1
Abergavenny Town - 2
AFTER a slow start to their league campaign, and an indifferent showing in the Welsh Cup against the students of Swansea University the previous Saturday, Town are starting to hit form.
Town were good value for their win against Caldicot Town and dominated proceedings from the off. They went ahead when Aaron Norman fed Sean Feeley, who slipped the ball to Curtis Methven.
Methven fired an angled shot which beat former Newport County ‘keeper Gareth Wesson, clipping his far post before entering the net.
Town did have a scare on the half-hour mark when a freakish bounce saw the ball clip their cross bar but by and large it was comfortable first half.
After the break the hosts showed more intent with Town’s Tom Indge bringing off a brilliant double save on the hour mark.
Moments later Town went two up when Wesson advanced to the edge of the box to block a Sean Feeley shot, which saw Rhys Tandy pick up the ball and picking his spot, slotted past Wesson.
In the next passage of play Town had every reason to be grateful to Tandy, as Caldicot pulled back a goal with a screaming shot into the top corner of the net to set up a tense finale.
But in truth Town’s defence held firm and the visitors, as they did last season, returned home with the points.
Town will be looking to extend their winning run to four games when they entertain Dinas Powys tomorrow (Friday) night. Kick off is 8.00pm.
Meanwhile Town’s U18 side were narrowly beaten 3-4 by league leaders FC Cwmaman at Pen-y-Pound last Sunday.
Town’s reserve side were also involved in a narrow score-line at Pen-y-Pound on Saturday. This time being on the right side of a 3-2 victory over Chepstow Town with goals from Scott Cleere, Jack Sage and Michael Davies, with Jack Sage putting in a man of the match performance.
