Croesyceiliog FC - 2

Abergavenny Town FC - 1

AS has been a familiar pattern of late, Town started very brightly and looked by far the better side from the off but failed to make the final scoreline reflect this.

Town almost went ahead early on with a power header from a corner which produced a terrific goal-mouth clearance. Soon after Rhys Tandy went close with a solo effort, and Will Duggan produced an excellent shot on the turn which was smothered by Croesyceiliog’s goalkeeper.

Following a brilliant finger-tip save from Town’s ‘keeper Tom Indge, the hosts struck first after clearing up a loose ball from a corner.

Town were not behind for long. As half-time approached Aaron Norman played an astute pass to Rhys Tandy and Town’s marksman made no mistake in finding the bottom corner.

It was ten minutes into the second half that Town were undone losing possession on the edge of the box with Croesyceiliog rifling the ball into the roof of the net.

Both sides had more chances in the remainder of the game but none were converted and it is Croesyceiliog who have their name in the hat for the second round draw.

On Saturday Town return to league action, ironically against Croesyceiliog at Pen-y-Pound Stadium. kick-off is 2.30pm.
