Abergavenny Town FC - 1

Goytre FC - 2

BOTH Aber and Goytre returned to league action after an enforced break due to bad weather, and it was the Plough Road side who showed no signs of rustiness, taking the game to their hosts from the start, with Town’s stopper, Tom Indge having to be sharp on several occasions to keep his goal intact.

Having said that Town did have a glorious chance right at the end of the first-half but could not convert.

It was a different Town which took to the field in the second-half, and they showed their intent when Sean Feeley went wide with a power header.

Town reaped their reward mid-way through the half when they were awarded a penalty which Feeley duly converted to put the hosts ahead.

It was at this point that it looked like Town might add to their tally. Curtis Methven fired in a shot on the turn which drew applause from the Pen-y-Pound faithful, but it was well saved.

Methven was on hand again when Goytre’s keeper dropped a high ball, but his shot was blocked.

Just when it looked as though Town were going to claim the points they were hit with a double blow.

Dan MacDonald brought Goytre level on 89 minutes, and as the game entered added time Lewis Sommers used all his strength to score the winner.

On Saturday Town travel to Bridgend Street in Tremorfa, Cardiff (2pm kick-off).

Meanwhile in the Gwent Central League, Mardy AFC gained ample revenge for the 7-2 battering they had at Pen-y-Pound back on September 14 by handing out a 7-1 rout of Town Reserves. The reserves have a three week lay-off until they travel to face Race on November 30 in the Langdon Cup

Elsewhere, Town’s U16 side narrowly went out of the Gwent FA Junior Cup with Caldicot Town coming out the better in a seven goal thriller.
