Caldicot Town FC - 0
Abergavenny Town were back to full strength on the weekend and returned from Jubilee Ground with all three points in the bag.
However they were made to battle all the way by their high-flying Caldicot opponents and there were a handful of scares along the way.
The first came early in first-half when Caldicot booted the ball into the net only for the effort to be ruled out by referee Howells for offside.
Town took the advantage on 25 minutes when Dan Jenkins fired home with his shot just clipping the far post and rolling in.
Caldicot thought they had levelled 10 minutes later but again referee Howells ruled out the goal, this time for a foul.
Caldicot to their credit always looked dangerous, and Town were happy to go into the interval with their noses in front.
Caldicot continued to press in the second-half and Town’s re-shuffled defence, who had lost Jac Evans to injury in the opening minutes of the match, replaced by Callum Evans, had to be on their toes.
Town stayed strong and went further ahead on the hour when Sean Feeley scored with a left foot shot.
Still Caldicot were not done and it took a brilliant save from Tom Indge to keep them at bay as Town’s supporters suffered a nervy finale. In the end Town produced the perfect away performance, which saw them bag three points and a third consecutive clean sheet.
Town are home to Llantwit Major on Saturday (2.30pm) and will be looking to keep up their recent good form, ahead of their Welsh cup first round match against local rivals, Panteg FC at Pen-y-Pound on Saturday, October 7.
Meanwhile back at Pen-y-Pound last Saturday, Town’s reserve side suffered a 0-2 reversal against Treharris Athletic Western.
