Abergavenny Women - 3

IT was a depleted Abergavenny Women squad that travelled North for the weekend looking to bounce back after their defeat late on against Cardiff City the previous Sunday.

As always Abergavenny started strongly but a couple of missed chances meant they’d have to be patient against a side battling for survival.

The waiting game paid off after some good work from Siobhan Humphrey and Lyndsey Davies saw the ball played through to Kate Jeremiah who finished superbly on 25 minutes.

An ankle injury to the impressive Laura Davies forced a change which saw Welsh U.19’s keeper Grace Thomas-Parr come on at right back, and the youngster put on an impressive display. Another pin point pass from Lyndsey Davies again found Kate Jeremiah on the edge of the box and it was the same result.

Jeremiah was later denied a superb first half hat trick when her left foot strike rattled the woodwork.

Due to the changes, some positional, Abergavenny failed to regain their form in the second half but inspirational skipper Ceri Hudson led by example, not allowing her side to let the points slip. Lyndsey Davies fired home the third after 75 minutes and it was a case of job done for Abergavenny who still sit a very impressive second place in the league.

The coming fortnight sees Abergavenny in cup action with a league cup semi-final at Port Talbot this Sunday followed a week later by a mouthwatering Welsh Cup quarter-final at home to Cardiff Met.
