Briton Ferry Llansawel - 1

Abergavenny Town - 0

Town visited Old Road Football ground to play Britton Ferry Llansawel and immediately put pressure on their higher placed opponents.

After 14 minutes Luke Lewis was through on goal but his shot went just wide.

Ferry’s first meaningful attack came on 20 minutes when Thomas Da Silva shot wide of Tom Indge’s goal.

Midway through the first half Town were denied a penalty when Craig Norman’s mazy run into the box resulted in him being brought down by the Reds defender, however the referee, to the amazement of the crowd, waved play on and the ball was cleared to safety.

Town were dealt a body blow on 40 minutes when Luke Lewis was forced off with an injury, to be replaced by Jordan Chappelle returning from a two match suspension.

In injury time Craig Norman was fouled but the resultant free kick was put high over the bar to leave the half-time score at 0-0.

Briton Ferry immediately put Town under pressure at the start of the second half, forcing two corners in quick succession but failed to capitalise on either.

Town continued to press forward but despite playing good football were unable to get the break through required.

Midway through the second half Craig Norman was put through on goal by an excellent pass from Brett Alderson but again the shot was hit wide of the post.

It became clear that it was not going to be Town’s day when the referee disallowed a strike from 18 yards into the back of the net, for an off the ball shout of ‘leave it’.

As the game entered its final minutes, Sean Feeley was substituted by young Jordan Harford as both managers rang the changes. This paid off for Ferry as substitute Rob Cann slipped his marker wide on the right, cut inside and shot hard and low into the net on 89 minutes, to give the hosts the lead in a game that seemed to have 0-0 written all over it.

Town return to Pen-y-Pound Stadium on Saturday when they face Gwent rivals Aberbargoed Buds. kick off is at 2.30pm.
