Abergavenny RFC - 22

Abertysswg RFC - 0

IN a very wet and windy Bailey Park, Abergavenny thundered to a storming win over an Abertysswg outfit two places above them in the league.

Aber were able to field a fairly similar side to the previous week with Josh Van Male and Josh Davies returning to the pack and James Lewis and Stuart Davies the only changes behind.

Abergavenny started the game playing with pace and control, stretching the away side and putting them under long periods of pressure.

Aber’s tenacity won them a penalty. Full back Dan Hayman kicked with a howling gale behind him only for the ball to strike the upright. The rebound fell into the arms of winger James Lewis who ran strongly to beat the cover and open the scoring. Dan Hayman converted and soon added a penalty to give the home side a 10-0 lead.

A dominant Abergavenny increased their lead when scrum half Ryan Joyce scored an unconverted try to make it 15-0 at half-time.

In the second-half the Falcons had the elements in their favour and took full advantage of it and kept Aber pinned back for long periods.

The Clarets defended manfully to keep their line intact and after being starved of possession they eventually turned the ball over. Winger Lewis ran out of defence to link up with Stuart Davies.

Davies passed to Hayman, who delivered an inside pass to Will Williams to cross under the posts for an excellent try in the conditions. The try was converted by Hayman to make it 22-0.

Next week Aber visit Ebbw vale to take on RTB.
