Dinas Powys FC - 3

Abergavenny Town FC - 3

Played on an extremely soft and heavy pitch, Abergavenny took the game to Dinas Powys from the kick-off, playing with passion and drive.

Town were rewarded after 10 minutes when Rhys Tandy cut into the goal area and was brought down resulting in the award of a penalty kick, duly put away by Sean Feeley, 0-1 to the Town.

Abergavenny continued to play good football despite the difficult pitch conditions and further chances fell to both Nathan Davies and Sean Feeley as the half progressed. On the stroke of Half time Sean Feeley pounced to drive the ball home for Town to go in with a 0-2 lead.

Town were unfortunate not to increase their lead 10 minutes after the restart when Nathan Davies was fouled just outside the penalty box, however, his sweetly struck free kick just sailed wide of the far post.

Dinas Powys reduced the deficit on the hour mark, when following a corner, they were able to force the ball home over the congested goal line 1-2.

This spurred on the opponents who put Town under more pressure mid- way through the half, however Town were able to resist this pressure and came back strongly.

Recent signing, Leo Ross, showed why he was last season’s top scorer in the Division, when with 12 minutes left to play, capitalised on a defensive error to lift the ball over the goalkeeper to restore Town’s two goal advantage.

Town’s Man of the Match was Sean Feeley.

On Saturday Town return to Pen-y-Pound Stadium entertaining high flying Port Talbot Town with a 2.30pm kick-off.

Back at Pen-y-Pound Stadium, Town’s reserve side tasted action for the first time in a month but showed no signs of rustiness overcoming Race United 6-0.

Town’s goals came Liam Simmonds who got a brace, Ryan Groves who did likewise and a goal each from Tom Jenkins and Jack Sage.

With the league title almost assured of going to Cwmffrwdoer, Town are locked in a battle with Pontypool Town to claim the runners up spot.

Level on points, Town have a one match advantage over their Torfaen rivals.
