IT proved an excellent week for Mardy, with the 1sts securing a first Gwent Central One win over Clydach Wasps 2nds 4-2 and a second 3-1 triumph over previously unbeaten leaders Forgeside.

The Development Team joined in the fun with a spectacular 8-3 away win over Penygarn & Trevethin Development, with Scott Whitney helping firing five, including two penalties.

Tuesday's game against Wasps started scrappily before Dan Palmer put Mardy ahead with a well-taken goal after half an hour.

Stephen Woodhouse then looked to have increased the lead, but his headed goal was whistled for offside.

And Kian Evans then equalised for Wasps before the break only for the the lead to be restored three minutes after half-time when Will Duggan opened his Mardy tally following a flowing move.

Wasps again came back to level 2-2 through Peter Cowell.

But Mardy then regained the lead when Luke Morgan latched onto a long Matthew 'Baz' Davis goal kick for 3-2 just before the hour.

And the result was finally settled on 88 minutes when Will Duggan grabbed his second thanks to a well-taken free-kick.

Away to Forgeside on Saturday, Mardy started well with Duggan prominent again, firstly going close with a free-kick after ten minutes then shooting over from distance before the team took the lead after 22 minutes.

This time it was Eoin Duggan who netted after a Woodhouse free-kick put pressure on keeper Darren Rudd, following lengthy treatment to the Forgeside keeper for what appeared to be a neck injury.

Shortly after a brave save at a Forgeside attacker's feet by Baz Davis, the lead was increased when good work by Leighton Melia gave Lewi Bradford a chance to put over a nicely flighted cross which looked to take a deflection before sailing into the net.

Melia and Palmer then combined well before the latter's cross was put just over by Eoin.

The visitors then made a positive start to the second half and went three up after 51 minutes with a lovely goal after a pin-point Palmer cross was met at the far post by Eoin's stooping header to emulate his brother's previous brace.

Full credit to Forgeside, however, who stuck gamely to their task and began to have more of the play before they deservedly got a goal back with 16 minutes remaining when a David Gulliford free-kick from near the touchline found the back of the net.

They could have pulled another goal back but the visitors came closest to scoring when Jake Watkins spun near the edge of the area and fired just over the bar.

The week was rounded off with news of an 8-3 win for the Development at Penygarn & Trevethin, where the hosts took an early lead which was cancelled out by a Scott Whitney penalty.

Two more goals saw the hosts 3-1 in front just after the break.

However, Whitney then scored twice more, including another spot kick to make it 3-3.

And the visitors took command with Alfie Nicol putting them in front before goals from Rhys Gully, Oli Shooter and Whitney twice more for a personal tally of five.

The club were also busy off the field as well with Ben Symonds returning from a stint with Brynmawr United and former Abergavenny Town players Jake Heckles and Sam Rashdi also signing.

There are no fixtures this weekend with players on parking duty at the Food Festival.
