Abergavenny Women - 7

Briton Ferry Ladies - 1

FOLLOWING a two week break Abergavenny could’ve been excused if they’d made a slow start against Briton ferry Ladies, however a thumping drive from Kate Jeremiah after four minutes flew in off the bar to settle any early nerves.

The first half turned into a scrappy affair although Aber were guilty of spurning a couple of golden chances to extend the lead.

A huge moment in the game came on 32 minutes when Amy Thrupp was through on goal only to be taken down on the edge of the area by Briton Ferry defender Sophie Cardy who was given a straight red card.

Abergavenny were on top now and top scorer Lyndsey Davies made it 2-0 on 42 minutes.

To their credit the visitors hit back on the stroke of half time after some poor defending from a free kick allowed them to make it 2-1.

The second half saw Abergavenny dominate, and it was a question of damage limitation for the visitors.

Local girl Amy Thrupp scored twice, whilst the other three goals went to talented 25-year-old Lyndsey Davies who became the first woman to reach 100 premier league goals.

With five minutes remaining she even made it 101 to round off a superb second-half team performance from the table topping Abergavenny Women.

Manager Richie Jeremiah was pleased with the result but reminded the team that it’s only October and there’s still much to work on in the coming months.
