Crickhowell RFC - 50
Malpas RFC - 17
CRICKHOWELL RFC roared back into action on the weekend with an emphatic seven win over Malpas RFC.
Matt Botting gained a brace of tries early on to set up a 14-0 lead. Malpas struck back however but a Tom Keane penalty and a further try from Bleddyn Carrington saw the half-time score standing at 24-7.
Malpas were first on the scoreboard in the second half with an unconverted try but Crickhowell were awarded a penalty try when, after kicking ahead and giving chase, Harry summers was brought down without the ball.
Malpas struck soon afterwards with another controversial unconverted try. Almost immediately after taking the field, the elusive Lewis Tucker scored a try, closely followed by Nick Dixon, who scored Crick’s only unconverted try of the day. The final try was the result of a fine team effort rounded off by Harry Summers. Tom Keane’s kicking added five conversions and a penalty to the home team’s tally.
It was a welcome return to winning ways for the Parc Broyd outfit having let slip their lead in their previous two games which had resulted in Rogerstone RFC coming back to hold them to a 27 all draw on November 17 and Brynithel RFC pipping them at the post by winning by 14-13 on the 24.
Despite the win, however, the day was tinged with sadness as prior to kick-off a tree was planted in memory of Angus McInnes - the first secretary of the modern day Club - and a minute’s silence was held for both Angus and another ex-player, Joe Grant, who had also recently passed away. The game was sponsored by Richard Reardon-Smith and next week the action again returns to Crickhowell when they welcome old rivals West Mon RFC to Parc Broyd with a 2.30pm kick off.
